Color photo. A bald eagle, perched on a branch in a leafless tree, with a deep blue sky behind. It is looking to the right.

I took a walk through the Union Bay Natural Area at the Center for Urban Horticulture recently, and brought my long lens along ‘just in case’.  It’s a good location for spotting birds of all sorts and, though we’re not into migration season yet, I thought I might get lucky.

Friends, I think I did.  🙂

This pair of Bald Eagles were in the wetlands portion of the natural area, perched in two different trees near each other.  Given the time of year and their difference in size, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a mated pair with a nest in the area somewhere.  I hope to see them next time I’m there, and I’ll be bringing that long (and heavy, oof) lens with me for sure.
