Color photo. A grey stone statue of a lion, in Japanese style, sitting on a pedestal. Its left front paw rests on a ball. The ball has a red-painted flower motif. The lion's claws, teeth, and eyes are painted white. Its mouth is painted red. Its pupils are painted gold.

Four years ago I went to Japan.

It was my second time there, and hopefully not my last. It’s a wonderful place to visit; full of history and culture everywhere you look.

This was taken at the Fushimi Inari shrine, in Kyoto. Primarily known for its 1000 torii gates there are also many, many statues, mostly of Inari the fox, which made this lion(?) stand out to me.
