Color photo. An adult and a child standing next to each other in shallow water. A small wave is about to break in front of them. The child, barely more than a toddler, has shoulder length blonde hair. They are wearing pink shorts with mud on their behind, and a teal shirt. They are facing away, towards the water, their arms at their sides. The adult is seen from the side, bent over as though to talk to the child. They are wearing a long white cable knit sweater, almost down to their knees, and a large floppy straw hat.

I took this photo of a friend and her friend’s daughter a couple of weeks ago, while out with them doing some tide-pooling.  I was struck at the time by how much it reminded me of the work of George Seurat, particularly Bathers at Asnières.

Since I was expecting to photograph small things I had my macro lens on the camera.  It does all right as a portrait lens in a pinch.  😉
