More photos from my visit to the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge last week. When I went down I was primarily looking for migratory shorebirds, like the Caspian Tern from the prior post, but there were plenty of others.
I typically get down to the Refuge once or twice a year, but this was the first time I’d arrived at low tide and stayed long enough for the tide to come all the way in. It’s fascinating watching the little pools in the mud flat grow and connect until, before you realize it, it’s no longer a mud flat, it’s a little bay.
