Color photo. Three tawny Canada Goose goslings standing in a row on a floating log. The closest has its back to the viewer. The middle one and the far one are facing to the right.

Monday saw me getting out of the house to head over to the Union Bay Natural Area at the University of Washington campus.  We’re at the height of migration season now, and the Natural Area is a good place to do some birding.  So I spent a pleasant couple of hours wandering around with the camera, soaking up some much appreciated sun, capturing what I could of the birds I saw.  And not just birds!  Plenty of rabbits and turtles were doing their thing and stayed still long enough to get their photo taken.  The geese and ducks have young now too, in their adorable fluffy phase.

In all, I saw:

  • Wood Ducks
  • Anna’s Hummingbirds
  • Canada Geese
  • Song Sparrows
  • Osprey
  • Red-winged Blackbirds
  • Mallards
  • Dark-eyed Junco
  • and, of course, Crows (or possibly Ravens)

I’m particularly happy with the shot I got of the hummingbird, freezing its wings in mid flight.  🙂
