Color photo. Two fern fronds, in their immature curled "fiddle-head" phase, growing next to each other from a collection of green leaves next to the ground. The fronds are green with tiny leaves in green and brown. Behind them, out of focus, are more fronds.

Spring is definitely springing here in the Seattle area, with new growth everywhere. Cherry trees mostly peaked a week or so ago, but I managed to get some shots of them then, at the University of Washington quad, while doing a portrait shoot. There were so many people there that day!

Lower to the ground ferns are starting to rise up, showing their fiddle-head phase. I have fond memories of going “fiddle-heading” when I was young, picking the young shoots of edible ferns while they were still tightly coiled. Seeing one makes Spring feel Very Real to me. 🙂 Maybe I’ll get out and pick some when the season has started reaching the higher elevations in the Cascades.
