Color photograph. A paved pathway runs along the bottom of the frame. On the far side is a sward of grass and a line of low bushes. The blue-green waters of Puget Sound dominate the middle of the frame, and the Olympic Mountains, capped by fluffy white clouds, are visible on the far side. The branches of a tree extend from off the frame to the left, their shade covering part of the pathway.

Today, being the solstice, marks the first day of summer for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. We’re having a very nice day here in the Seattle area, where the joke is this month should usually be called June-uary. I took the opportunity to go sit in the shade under a tree, where I had a view of the Sound and the mountains, to read a book and just soak up the day.

I hope this longest day finds you well. Welcome Summer!
