Color photo. A stepped waterfall, framed by trees, flowing over gray rocks. A long exposure has rendered the water as smooth, milky sheets.

Shots from my second day at Glacier last year.

I woke up before dawn to fog, but kept to my plan for the morning: driving out the Inside North Fork Road. Once I’d gained a bit of elevation I caught the rising sun through the mist, backlighting a stand of barren trees and throwing them into silhouette.

It looked like there had been a fire in the area sometime in the last few years, but the new growth was coming up everywhere between the bare trunks. Spiders had been hard at work; basically every little plant had a puff of web at the top, with a few ambitious webs crossing the gaps, and all of them covered in dew drops sparkling in the sun.

Later, after the fog burned off, I drove down the North Fork Road along the Nort Fork Flathead River. This is outside the boundaries of Glacier, but still well within the mountains.

I finished the day by driving back up Going to the Sun Road to get some shots of the waterfalls on McDonald Creek just before it gets to Lake McDonald.
